Prepare

Shut down the line, glove up, then clean and roughen the damaged area with a file or wire brush.

Apply putty

Knead the Steel Putty to a uniform grey and press it firmly into the damage. Work within 2–5 minutes.

Soak bandage

Soak the bandage in fresh 22–26°C water for 10–20 seconds, squeezing once or twice to activate.

Wrap firmly

Wrap around the damage, extending 50mm each side, pulling every layer tight for a strong repair.

Cure & set

With wet gloves, squeeze with a rotating motion until the resin stops foaming. Sets rock-hard in ~30 minutes.

What liquids and gases can Rapp-it be used on?
Rapp-it safely handles most (though not all) fluids and mediums — from potable (drinking) water through to sulphuric and hydrochloric acids and industrial slurries. Contact us if you’re unsure about a specific medium.
What are the working and cure times?
Curing begins as soon as the foil pouch is opened. The bandage has a working time of about 4–5 minutes and the Steel Putty about 4–7 minutes, with both reaching full cure in roughly 30 minutes.
How thick should the repair be?
Apply a minimum of 10mm — roughly 12–15 wraps around the pipe — and extend the repair about 50mm either side of the damaged area.
Can I repair using only the bandage?
Yes, the bandage can be used on its own, but we recommend pairing it with Rapp-it Steel Putty for a stronger, more reliable repair.
Can Rapp-it be used on a live line that can’t be isolated?
Yes. Isolating the line gives the best result, but where that isn’t possible, reduce the pressure as low as you can and apply Rapp-it to stem the flow until a permanent procedure can be carried out.
Can it be used on a wet pipe that won’t fully dry?
Yes — Rapp-it is well suited to wet applications. Clean and roughen the surface first to ensure a successful repair.
Can Rapp-it be used underwater?
Yes, both the bandage and Steel Putty can be applied underwater in fresh or salt water. Cure time varies with water temperature — colder water slows curing, warmer water speeds it up.
Can Rapp-it be used on larger-diameter pipes?
Yes. The RAP304 (100mm × 9m) suits larger-diameter pipes and elbows, and multiple bandages can be used for very large pipes.
Can it be used on buried or underground pipes?
Yes. As Rapp-it is a temporary repair, we recommend recording the repair location in a job or location report so a permanent repair can be arranged later.
How do I remove Rapp-it once it’s cured?
Cured Rapp-it can be removed with a hacksaw, angle grinder, or hammer and cold chisel. Always check the pipe’s contents first (some media are flammable), wear appropriate PPE, and use a respirator when grinding.
Does Rapp-it have a shelf life?
Rapp-it has a shelf life of about 2 years from purchase when stored below 25°C (77°F) with the foil pouch unpunctured.
